Grid Integrated Vehicles in the Southeast: Engineering, Business Models, Costs, and Benefits

Principal Investigator: Marilyn Brown; co-investigator – Deepakraj M. Divan

Summary: The investigators propose evaluating alternative mechanisms for expanding the deployment of electric vehicles by examining alternative business models, policies, and technologies that enable EVs to provide valuable services to the electric grid. The project will examine the adaptability and cost-effectiveness of business models, policies, and technologies currently used in the Northeast and California to the traditionally vertically-integrated structure of the utility industry in the Southeast. A policy brief will be produced that includes a final report and a business plan on the overall analysis and the outcome of multiple research-related meetings with collaborators and stakeholders.

Potential Collaborators:  Southern Company, the Tennessee Valley Authority, University of Tennessee, Oak Ridge National Lab, Georgia Tech’s Climate and Energy Policy Laboratory, Center for Distributed Energy, and the Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business
