The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Office of Advanced Simulation and Computing (ASC) has announced the latest initiative in the Predictive Science Academic Alliance Program, or "PSAAP-III."  PSAAP-III will nominally be funded at ~$25 million. NNSA will hold a Pre-proposal Conference on March 14-15, 2018 in Minneapolis, MN for interested representatives from U.S. institutions to learn about the next ASC academic program. The three major focus areas of the new ASC Alliance program will be:

  • Development and demonstration of technologies and methodologies to support effective Exascale computing in the context of science/engineering applications;
  • “Predictive Science” based on verification and validation and uncertainty quantification for large-scale simulations;
  • Discipline-focused research needed both to further predictive science and enable Exascale computing.

 At the conference, NNSA ASC program managers will present the new scope and requirements of the next ASC Alliance program and articulate the technical areas of interest that will form the basis for the new program. In addition, the meeting will afford academic institutions an opportunity to provide oral comments and feedback on the upcoming Request for Information.

Because of the interdisciplinary nature of this opportunity, the Strategic Energy Institute is collaborating with other IRIs and academic units to ensure Georgia Tech's capabilities and expertise are deployed on this initiative. SEI has reserved funds to cover the travel and conference registration expenses for up to 4 faculty members to attend.

If upon reviewing this opportunity, you would like to apply for these travel funds, please send a brief email to: marcela.moreno@energy.gatech.edu. Include your name, school, area of interest in the PSAAP program, and potential collaborators (other Georgia Tech Faculty, IRIs, national labs, etc.) by February 21, 2018.

If you are interested, but unable to attend, please send a brief email to register your interest and we will compile a teaming list of interested Georgia Tech stakeholders. Feel free to forward this announcement to others in the Georgia Tech network that have interest.

For more details on the conference, visit the official site.
