There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Title: Measurement and Optimization Techniques for Imaging Through Atmospheric Turbulence
Committee:
Dr. Romberg, Advisor
Dr. Anderson, Chair
Dr. McClellan
Abstract: The objective of the proposed research is to develop and explore a novel image acquisition and processing chain to recover imagery distorted by atmospheric turbulence. Classic adaptive optics hardware will be modified and augmented with advanced post-acquisition processing techniques to recover imagery. A core algorithm will be developed to jointly estimate the original source image and isoplanatic atmospheric distortion that will then be extended for spatially-variant, anisoplanatic distortions. The system will be analyzed against ideal operating conditions as well as against challenge cases using a combination of simulation and physical workbench data acquisition.
