Usually, information collected during past flu seasons help determine which variants influenza vaccines need to cover during the next season. But efforts to control the pandemic in 2020 meant more masking and social distancing, and that resulted in fewer flu cases. That means less information for the next round of flu shots, says M.G. Finn, Professor and Chair, and James A. Carlos Family Chair for Pediatric Technology in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Finn still recommends getting those flu shots later this year, as they will still help prevent illness.
