An email related to an Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield class action settlement was sent to several University System of Georgia employees. The email indicates employees may be eligible for a claim.
The email is legitimate, however, Anthem is not determining eligibility or issuing notices. The settlement is being handled by a third-party administrator. The USG’s benefits office provided the following information for anyone interested in learning more:
This email is legitimate and was not sent by Anthem (BCBS). Instead, it was sent by a third-party administrator who is handling the settlement. Generally, individual policyholders and insured groups that purchased Blue Cross and Blue Shield commercial products since 2008, as well as self-funded health plans that purchased Blue Cross and Blue Shield commercial products since September 2015, are included in the settlement class. This generally excludes states, counties, municipalities, tribes, and the federal government accounts and purchasers, including Medicare and the Federal Employee Program participants. It is important to note that the process associated with identifying who is a member of the class is lengthy and complicated process. A third-party settlement administrator will ultimately make these decisions and issue notice. Anthem is not able to determine if you are eligible. We recommend that potential class members contact plaintiffs with questions about the settlement and whether they are class members.
