School of Computer Science (SCS) Ph.D. student Yuanbo Li has won the Facebook Fellowship. Li will use the fellowship for concurrent computing research.

Created to fund research in top computing areas, the fellowship provides tuition support for two years and a $42,000 stipend. It also offers winners the opportunity to visit Facebook’s campus for a Fellowship Summit.

“I am very honored and excited to win the fellowship,” Li said. “I am very grateful for the help from my advisor and collaborators as well.”

Li will use the fellowship to explore better static analysis techniques for concurrent programs. These programs execute several computations simultaneously. As Moore’s law ends, concurrent computation could be a solution. However, detecting bugs is challenging even for experienced software developers.

“I am delighted to hear that Yuanbo had been selected for the Facebook Fellowship award,” said Li’s advisor, SCS Assistant Professor Qirun Zhang. “It is a highly competitive program that well recognizes his past accomplishments and future potential.”
