After more than 50 years of hoops in the Thrillerdome, the Georgia Tech men's basketball team will host its last matchup in Alexander Memorial Coliseum on Sunday, March 6, at 2:30 p.m. against the Miami Hurricanes. Free T-shirts will be given to all Tech students, and faculty and staff may purchase tickets at a discounted price of $12 each.
The game closes out the team's regular season schedule and ushers in a period of renovations for the Coliseum as it prepares to become the McCamish Pavilion in October 2012.
Faculty and staff may purchase discounted tickets at the athletic ticket office window at the corner of Bobby Dodd and Techwood, open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., or online using promo code GOTECH. Free student T-shirts are provided by GT Tech Support, a rewards program that offers athletics rewards and information via its Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages.
Alexander Memorial Coliseum opened in 1956 and has not only served as home court for the men's and women's basketball teams, but also has hosted Tech volleyball, Olympic events and the Atlanta Hawk during the course of its history. A $15 million donation from the McCamish family will enable renovations, during which time the Yellow Jackets will play at either Philips Arena or the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
