There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Prof. Todd Michney is looking to employ an undergraduate research assistant this summer. The work project is to transcribe the names, locations, and employment of all known Tuskegee Institute alumni as of 1926, converting this information from a 100-page oversized ledger to an Excel spreadsheet (I have a PDF made from snapshots I took in the Tuskegee Archives). Founded in 1881, Tuskegee is the best-known HBCU (Historically Black College or University), and was led from the late 19th to the early 20th century by the country’s most prominent African American leader at the time, Booker T. Washington.
Having access to a large computer monitor or dual screens is highly recommended; once the transcribing is finished, the work will shift to checking the ProQuest Historic African American Newspapers database for any mentions of the individuals named. All HSOC majors are welcome to apply; please write an email indicating interest (include resumé) to: todd.michney@hsoc.gatech.edu
