There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. If you noticed a Tom Cruise deepfake video making the rounds recently on your social media accounts, you'll want to check out another video — this tutorial on deepfakes (videos that use artificial intelligence to replace the likeness of one person with another) by School of Psychology graduate student Zachary Tidler, who is investigating the phenomenon and the ethical issues raised by them. Here's an earlier story about Tidler's research and how he hopes it leads to more media literacy in the U.S.
