The Atlanta Global Studies Center (AGSC), in collaboration with the Georgia Arabic Teachers Association (GATA), Alif Institute, and the GA Department of Education World Languages and Global Workforce Initiatives, has been granted funding by Qatar Foundation International (QFI) to establish an Arabic Teachers Council of the Southeast and to provide ACTFL OPI training to ten Arabic teachers. The Arabic Teachers Council of the Southeast will bring educators of Arabic language and culture from all over the southeastern United States together to prioritize and coordinate professional development and cultural events that promote language learning, global competence, intercultural fluency, and Middle Eastern culture. Participants in upcoming teacher training workshops will receive professional development certificates recognized by the GA DOE - World Languages and Alif Institute. In addition, this award has provided the opportunity to found a chapter of the QFI Arabic Honor Society at North Atlanta High School.
