There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

This webinar describes the mechanics of a qualitative assessment of the combined impacts of the changing resource mix, energy efficiency, and electrification, among other factors, on state-level transmission systems. It is based on prior results from a broader study of the US energy economy about economic and resource planning that accounts for transmission interactions with neighboring regions. The qualitative analysis of transmission system impacts is divided into the categories of planning, operations, and economic dispatch, and discussions about the drivers of future change that help identify relevant considerations for transmission impacts. This approach relies on establishing the current system status and operational challenges, the historical and possible changes to the load and resource mix, the decision points in planning, operations, and markets, the significant electrification impacts on these decision points, and finally, opportunities to enhance reliability, and resiliency, subject to possible electrification impacts.
