Introduction to Implicit Bias” Workshops for Non-tenure track faculty and staff

This introductory workshop is geared towards research faculty, instructional faculty, academic professionals and staff members who are serving on search committees, promotion committees, and/or serving in diversity roles within their units/departments and want to learn more about implicit bias. The goal of these workshops is to increase awareness of the impact of implicit bias and to facilitate equitable decision-making.

As a participant in the workshop, you will learn the following:

  • An introduction to the concept of implicit bias and how these unconscious, automatic mental processes may impact behaviors such as evaluating candidates during search and promotion processes.
  • Empirical research on curriculum vitaes and letters of recommendation to illustrate the impact of implicit bias on decision making.
  • Best practices for mitigating implicit bias on search and promotion committees.
