We are delighted to invite you to the kick-off event for the new Race Beyond Borders initiative, a coalition of Greater Atlanta area higher education institutions, Global Atlanta, and the Atlanta Mayor’s Office of International Affairs, coordinated by the Atlanta Global Studies Center (AGSC).

Starting Feb. 5, just after Black History Month begins, our virtual launch event will feature local academics exploring “Understanding Race as a Global Concept: Power, Access, and Policy” presenting views that will help shape views of what race actually is — and isn’t.

Join us to create together a public-facing scholar-activist network, and a collaborative, diverse, multi-institutional, and multi-stakeholder space for a global conversation on race.

To learn more visit our webpage and REGISTER HERE for the Feb 5th event. You can also read about us in Global Atlanta. We look forward to “seeing” you on Feb 5th!

Free and open to public

What is race? How can we start developing a shared understanding of race as a global concept? What are the theoretical and experiential definitions of race? How are concepts of race constructed in different parts of the world and how does race affect various power structures and interact with other identities?

This event will launch the Race Beyond Borders initiative and offer a first step in bringing multiple stakeholders and diverse voices together to begin a dialogue and process of inquiry. We will work on establishing terminology and language. It will lead to a shared understanding and direction for fostering equity and justice in all aspects of life, in Atlanta and beyond.
