Making the Most of the Holidays and Break
It is time for a well-earned break for students, staff, and faculty. Students are returning home to reconnect with family, and friends or perhaps travel, if it is safe. This is a great opportunity for them to rest, and yes, get ready for the 2021 spring term.
Students have an extra-long winter break; the first day of classes do not begin until January 14, 2021. They can use this time to get a head start on their internship, co-op or full-time spring job search activities. A few resources we recommend include:
Think About
Connect with a Career Advisor
Career Advisors will be working until December 18 and return on December 28, 2020. The campus will be closed on December 21-25, 2020, and January 1, 2021.
To Schedule an appointment, select an advisor, and follow “Schedule an Appointment”.
Prep for Interviews
Use Optimal Interview (located inside Optimal Resume) Interview Prep. Students can record themselves answering questions. We also have a virtual coach to help them. We encourage students to watch their interview recordings to see what they need to improve.
CareerBuzz: Tech's online 24/7 Job Posting System
Students can update their profile in CareerBuzz and check out the resources under the Home menu.
They can continue applying for jobs. Lost count on how many applications were submitted? Check out “My Job Applications.”
Additional Resources: Career Explorer (Research Careers), Career Finder , Going Global (for Internships/Employment Globally), USA Career Guides, and Vault (Research Companies, Explore Internships, Career Advice (Resume, Cover Letter, Interview, Networking, Vault Guides Day in Life)
Events list: Career Fairs, Company Information Sessions, Workshops, Career Chats, Employer Insights

Attend the Spring All Majors Career Fair
Consider getting ready for the All Majors Career Fair on January 24-25. Prepare and practice an elevator pitch to the Career Fair. Check out these elevator pitch handouts at this link.
Research the organizations participating in the Spring Career Fair. Visit: http://careerfair.gatech.edu/
Consider conducting informational interviews with professionals during the break. Don’t forget neighbors, community members, and family. Maybe Uncle Jack was VP of R & D? Or Aunt Bee was a policy analyst who worked with consulting and government agencies. Maybe the next-door neighbor is a retired Tech alum who was on the ground floor of automating many of Atlanta's largest companies and trained many of the COO's.
Encourage your student to use their time wisely and learn about the people they know. Everyone has a story, and any connection might lead to an internship or full-time job.
