There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

The Brown Bag Series sponsored by the International International Affairs Graduate Organization (INTAGO) presents, "The Representation of Theories: Research Presentation" with Peter Brecke.
In this presentation, Peter Brecke will describe how to translate from a theory of a social process that exists within a mind to a computer program that implements the process described by the theory. It does this using as an example a theory of social movement formation. This social movement formation theory is created by integrating three lower-level theories:
- Relative deprivation theory
- Network threshold theory
- Instigator theory
The integration of the theories will be described and then a model created, which contains the variables and relationships described by the social movement formation theory. Then, algorithms that execute the processes of the theory using the variables and relationships in the model will be presented.
Peter Brecke is an Associate Professor with the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, and is also the Ivan Allen College Assistant Dean for Information Technology.
