6 Ways the Re-opened Library Can Help You

Looking for assistance with coursework and research? The Georgia Tech Library is ready to assist with both virtual and in-person resources.

“The library connects you to information and tools that aren’t available online without paywalls,” said Liz Holdsworth, a STEM librarian at the library. “We also have experts available to work with graduate students in multimedia design, data visualization, startups, and disciplinary research. Best of all, we are free and available 24/7 for nearly the entire calendar year.”

Read on for six ways the library can help you this semester.

  1. A talk for every topic. The library’s free online classes can help with school, professional development, or leisure activities. Check out talks with alumni, overviews of new data visualization techniques, or an arts and crafts lesson on the library’s event calendar.
  2. Contactless book lending. Can’t find what you need online? You can request to borrow physical materials on the library website, then pick them up without contact in a locker. If you want to check out archival materials, be sure to schedule an appointment in the Archives Reading Room at least 48 hours in advance.
  3. Support for any program. If you’re stuck on a project in Python, Tableau, or just need another set of eyes on your design, stop by one of the library’s online Help Desk sessions. No registration is needed —check out the library’s Help Desk calendar for times and BlueJeans links.
  4. A space to study. Since August, the library has been open for students to study as long as they wear masks and follow social distancing protocols. All three buildings are open 24/7 for you to use, but between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., make sure to bring your BuzzCard to get in the door.
  5. Free project printing. Most of the the library’s printing services are still available, including free black-and-white or color printing. Bring your BuzzCard to use your free printing allowance.
  6. Expert assistance. Whether you need to find additional sources, polish your proposal, or settle on a research topic, the library’s subject experts can help. Request a consultation with experts in anything from aerospace to public policy on the library’s website.
