This virtual panel discussion asks a simple, and by that we mean complex, question: How can we best improve voting in the United States?

Voting is vital. It is the fundamental aspect of citizenship in a democracy. Changing voting technologies, however, pose challenges such as costs, security, accessibility, transparency, voter trust, training of voting officials, procurement issues, and a lack of options on the supply side of these technologies. The new Ethics, Technology, and Human Interaction Center (ETHICx) invites all to a panel with Dr. Juan Gilbert, the Banks Family Preeminence Endowed Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer & Information Science & Engineering at the University of Florida, Ellen Zegura, Fleming Professor in the School of Computer Science at Georgia Tech, and Dr. Paul Baker, the Senior Director of Research and Strategic Innovation at Georgia Tech’s Center for Advanced Communications Policy (CACP), Interim Chief Operating Officer at the Center for the Development and Application of Internet of Things Technologies (CDAIT), and a Principal Research Scientist with the School of Public Policy.

Deven Desai, associate professor and area coordinator for law and ethics in the Scheller College of Business, will moderate.

Please join us as the panelists begin with these two questions to open the door to more on Voting, Technology, and Ethics:

  1. What do we think is the main problem with voting in America?
  2. What should be done to address this problem?

This event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
