There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Join Alternative Service Breaks (ASB) and Dr. Ruthie Yow, Service Learning and Partnerships Specialist for Serve-Learn-Sustain (SLS) for a workshop about developing meaningful and intentional community service experiences through asset-based community development (ABCD), a practice many service organizations utilize when partnering with organizations or communities for service experiences.
ABCD focuses on sustainable and community-driven development, valuing the strengths, skills, and practices already present within the community. Different from a deficit mindset, ABCD creates the opportunity for service partners and volunteers to provide collaborative support as identified by the community partner, which is more effective and sustainable than entering a community with solutions that may not be effective.
