The Ramblin’ Wreck Parade originated with the Old Ford Race in 1929, which was a 70-mile race from Atlanta to Athens. In 1932, Dean Floyd Field suggested a safer parade of contraptions instead, and the Ramblin’ Wreck Parade has been held on Tech’s campus ever since, with the exception of 1942 and 1943 due to gas shortages during World War II. The Wreck Parade originally consisted of two vehicle categories: Fixed Bodies and Classic Cars, with the addition of the third category, Contraptions, coming in 1944.

*** Due to Covid-19 we will not be featuring contraptions. ***

This year, the Wreck Parade will be held as a parade of classic cars and fixed body vehicles throughout a larger portion of campus so that students can watch the parade from their residences. All student organizations, athletic teams, and other family units (as defined by Georgia Tech) are invited to participate with their own classic car or decorated vehicle entry. Candidates for Mr. and Mrs. Georgia Tech will also be featured in the parade (if applicable). The parade will be from 9 to 10 Sunday, October 11th. A video produced by Georgia Drones will premier Homecoming morning -- featuring drone shots, participant interviews, judge commentary, and more, viewers will be able to enjoy the Ramblin’ Wreck Parade from the safety of their own home!
