Hanchao Lu, Professor in the School of History, Technology, and Society has been awarded the 2010 Honor for Academic Excellence by the Association of Chinese Historians in the United States, an affiliate of the American Historical Association (AHA). Lu was recognized for his work on the books, The Birth of A Republic: Francis Stafford's Photographs of China's 1911 Revolution and Beyond (University of Washington Press, 2010), A Man of Two Worlds: The Life of Sir Robert Hart, 1835-1911 (Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences Press, 2009), "Small Town China: A Historical Perspective on Rural-Urban Relations," in One Country, Two Societies: Rural-Urban Inequality in Contemporary China (Harvard University Press, 2010), along with two articles published in Chinese. He received the award during the annual AHA meeting in Boston on January 8, 2011.
