GVU 5.0 and the New Institute for People and Technology

2011 will be a year of exciting new transitions and opportunities for GVU.  New director Keith Edwards will present a brief discussion on the State of the Center, along with some initial visions for GVU in the coming year.

Over the past 18 years, GVU has been instrumental in "spinning out" and being the catalyst for educational programs (e.g. HCI MS and HCC PhD degrees), other research centers (e.g. RIM) and academic departments (e.g.the School of Interactive Computing).  Correspondingly, GVU's mission has evolved--and will continue to evolve--alongside the missions of these now standalone organizations.

One of the major changes coming this year is the creation of the new Institute for People and Technology, which will focus on translational research for enterprise transformation.  IPaTwill support various college research centers, including GVU, HSI, and the Tennenbaum Institute, as well as other activities, such as the Future Media initiative, that collectively pursue transformations in healthcare, education, consumer media, and other complex human enterprises by integrating advances in human-centered computing, architectural and digital design, policy, and system science and engineering. Incoming IPaT director (and outgoing GVU director) Beth Mynatt will discuss IPaT, it's relationship to the GVU Center, and how the presence of this new institute on campus will expand the opportunities and resources available for GVU faculty and students.

Please join us this Thursday for a Town Hall meeting to discuss these exciting opportunities.
