There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. A Fresh Outlook on Computational Geophysics: Applications to Erebus Volcano and L'Aquila Earthquake

The recent decade has seen a flurry of exciting new developments and activities in many fields of science at the intersection of sensor technologies, data analytics and data assimilation. Data science driven innovation will impact scientific communication, education, and research in the geosciences.

I will show examples ranging from volcanology, using Support Vector Machine and Convolutional Neural Networks to process large datasets of Infrared images, to seismology, showing an automatic Jupyter notebook applied to the reconstruction of the 3D fault structure of L'Aquila, Italy, from aftershock hypocenters.
