Now HiringThe Center for Advanced Communications Policy (CACP) is seeking a self-motivated, critical thinker/problem solver, graduate or advanced undergraduate student to serve as a GRA or URA. The social impacts of advanced technologies is a focus of CACP with a particular emphasis on wireless and next-generation technologies’ impact on the lives of people with disabilities. Other research areas include employment opportunities and outcomes for people with disabilities, broadening participation in STEM education, and disaster communications and response. The research assistant will work on research and development projects, which typically involves user testing of prototype technology; supporting qualitative research methodologies including focus groups and interviews; supporting quantitative analyses; conducting literature reviews; writing copy for newsletters and online newsroom; tracking federal policy and rulemakings related to wireless technology and people with disabilities; and summarizing policy related to next generation communications and technologies.
Desired Capabilities: Ability to work on multiple projects, and juggle time priorities, excellent qualitative and quantitative research skills, and ability to parse and absorb large amounts of policy-related materials. As a significant portion of CACP’s work is in the form of written reports, newsletters, and presentations, excellent writing, and communications skills are required. Applicants with public policy, regulatory, emergency communications or individuals with disabilities knowledge are preferred. Experience using EndNote (or similar reference management software), Microsoft Office Suite, and data analysis software such as Nvivo, SPSS, and R are also desired.
