No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. For several months the Georgia Tech campus has been sparsely populated, with most of the Tech community learning and working remotely. Now, as the prospect of returning students, faculty, and staff draws closer, it is important to remember that a new set of health and safety guidelines will be in place across campus. Some of them involve the cleaning of offices and workspaces every day — upon arrival and again when departing. Here are some tips.

  1. Clean off dust and dirt with a paper towel or water-moistened wipe.
  2. Spray the surface with the disinfectant until wet.
  3. Leave the disinfectant on the surface for the appropriate time or air dry according to the disinfectant directions.*
  4. Wipe the surface dry if needed.

*Be sure to follow the usage directions for all disinfectants.

Sharing equipment?
  • Use hand sanitizer before using shared equipment.
  • Consider using a stylus for shared devices.
  • Consider using a keypad cover for shared devices.
  • Wipe covers with disinfectant after each use.
  • If a stylus or keypad cover isn’t available, spray a cloth with disinfectant and gently wipe down touchpoints after each use.

Need to order supplies for your workspace?

Environmental Health and Safety is providing the following for the remainder of 2020. Work with your building manager to place an order.

  • Cloth face coverings
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Disinfectant
  • Forehead thermometer strips
  • Tissues
  • Dry wipes or paper towels

Learn more about disinfection procedures here.

Got trash and recycling?

The AWARE program (Actively Working to Achieve Resource Efficiency) is now standard across campus and requires workspace occupants to empty their own deskside trash and recycling.

  • Empty waste containers into the larger bins located within the building.
  • Place all office paper in larger paper recycling bins.
  • Empty any food waste into the solid waste/landfill containers daily.

Moving forward, custodians will no longer be servicing deskside office waste containers. This transition will allow our custodial teams to spend more time disinfecting buildings to protect our campus community and to help Georgia Tech reach its zero-waste goals.
