Water Line - 1892The City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management (DWM) has adjusted its timeline for fixing the water main that ruptured on June 27 near the intersection of Hemphill Avenue and Ferst Drive. Because the damage to the 36-inch pipe is more extensive than expected, repairs will take a little longer.
The break caused flooding on campus and affected several buildings in the immediate area. Proper water supply and pressure has not been reestablished at four of those buildings, which means sanitation, fire protection, and other lab safety systems continue to be unavailable. As a result, the following buildings remain closed:
After its inspection of the damaged line, which is believed to have been cast in 1892, DWM determined the pipe will need to be replaced and will soon provide an update on how long the process will take.
Additionally, Ferst Drive remains closed from State Street to 6th Street, and Hemphill is closed from 8th Street to Ferst Drive.
