How Shelter-In-Place Orders Affected Atlanta’s Air Pollution

There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. NASA scientist Bryan Duncan, who’s a Georgia Tech alumnus, uses satellites to study air quality. One pollutant in particular that he looks at is nitrogen dioxide, another one that affects people’s health. Once it's emitted, it's only around for a matter of hours, so researchers can see hot spots where it's coming from. "So it's a great indicator of pollution in general," Duncan said.
