Inclusion, Advocacy, and Support Collective
Hello, and we welcome you and your student to Georgia Tech! We are the Inclusion, Advocacy, and Support Collective. We comprise offices that provide community, support, and events for the Georgia Tech community. Within our Collective, we have the LGBTQIA Resource Center, Student Diversity Programs, the Veterans Resource Center, and the Women’s Resource Center. Each office has professional staff dedicated to providing a holistic experience for students. We are excited to help first-year students find community and connection!
The LGBTQIA Resource Centersupports the Institute's commitment to inclusive excellence by engaging the campus community in education, advocacy, and outreach for people of all genders and sexual identities. It is staffed by Director Tegra Myanna (they/them) and Coordinator Camilla Brewer (she/her). The Center coordinates a range of programs and events throughout the year aimed at educating faculty, students, and staff about LGBTQIA issues, providing safe spaces for LGBTQIA students to build community and explore their identities, and facilitating conversations about LGBTQIA diversity, equity, and inclusion. The LGBTQIA Resource Center hosts our annual LGBTQIA Student Welcome Reception, which takes place the second week of fall semester. This event is a special partnership with the Georgia Tech Department of Housing and is a wonderful opportunity for students to get to know their queer peers while enjoying free refreshments. We are located in the Smithgall Student Services Building, Suite 140. The Office of Student Diversity Programsserves as a resource for all students, faculty, and staff on campus. It is staffed by Associate Dean of Students and Director Stephanie Ray (she/her) and Program Director Karen Yiu (she/her). We advocate for the representation of all identities and cultures, and we educate and program around the multitude of identities at Tech. Our office supports students and student organizations in their diversity-related initiatives as well as their individual development. Students can obtain leadership experience with the office through the Diversity Ambassador Program, the MLK Student Board, participation in student organizations advised by the office, or attending programs and trainings hosted or sponsored by our department. The Veterans Resource Centerpromotes student learning and development and supports degree completion for students who are veterans, military, reservist, guard members, and dependents by providing comprehensive support services that enhance and complement the academic experience. David Ross (he/him) serves as director of the center and oversees all advising, program implementation, and development of the center. First-year students are invited and encouraged to attend the Student Veteran’s Welcome Reception in the fallto meet and network with other veterans, military students, dependents, and staff on campus — stay tuned for details. The Women’s Resource Center(WRC) is open to all students who have an interest in learning about or working toward gender equity. Assistant Dean of Students and Director Melanie DeMaeyer (she/her) and Program Coordinator Dani Lechner (she/her) provide advising, confidential support, programs, and training workshops. First-year students interested in women and gender equity centered leadership opportunities and finding community through on-campus organizations are invited to participate in our programs designed specifically to meet the needs and goals of first-year women:
