How coronavirus stress may scramble our brains

There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. Thackery Brown sees parallels between lab-based stressors and the complex and longer-lasting stresses of real life. Participants in a study were attempting to do something complicated while worrying about something else. The stressor is “operating in the background while you’re trying to plan your daily life,” Brown says. “There’s a connection there with the type of thing people are experiencing right now in the context of the pandemic.” Related coverage: City Beat.
