The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs has launched its new one-year, 30-credit hour Master of Science in International Affairs, Science, and Technology (MSIAST) program. The program, which is geared towards students interested in issues at the intersection of science, technology, and international policy, will be offered beginning fall 2021.
The MSIAST program comes at a time where there are increasing concerns about global international environment, political challenges, and the ability to address emerging technology. “To adequately address these types of issues, global leaders must understand the dynamics of international relations as well as the science and technology that underlie these issues and their potential solutions,” states Mariel Borowitz, associate professor in the Nunn School and director of the Nunn School Program on International Affairs, Science, and Technology. “Government agencies, non-profits, and companies that are concerned with these issues have a demand for individuals with this set of skills.”
The Nunn School at Georgia Tech is an ideal place for training students in these areas. The School has a distinguished faculty covering a broad range of issues in international relations, including those significantly impacted by science and technology, and is situated in one of the best schools in the nation for science and technology issues.
Because of ongoing, evolving, and emerging technological trends currently facing policymakers, innovators, analysts, non-governmental organizations, the military, and other relevant actors, we wanted to develop a program that will enable students to quickly respond to these growing concerns. Through the program, students will be exposed to issues related to energy, the environment, information and communication technologies, space policy, health technology, transportation technology, infrastructure, and organization of cutting-edge research.

The program is part of a growing trend of one-year degrees developed to accommodate working professionals who are wanting to obtain a degree in a shorter period.
