Cheng Zhu, Regents’ Professor in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University, has won Georgia Tech’s Outstanding Faculty Research Author 2020 Award.

Zhu also holds the J. Erskine Love Jr. Endowed Chair in Engineering, is the Coulter Department’s executive director for international programs, and is a researcher in the Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience.

Zhu’s lab studies single molecular adhesion with force spectroscopy for various cells and disease models. His lab pioneered the discovery of force-prolonged bond lifetime, or the “catch bond,” using the biomembrane force probe paired with mutation studies and molecular dynamics simulations.
