GA Tech Ocean Science and Engineering Presents Dr. Jean Lynch-Stieglitz, GA Tech School of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences
The North Atlantic Nutrient Stream: A 20,000 Year Perspective
The high rates of biological productivity in the North Atlantic are fed by the nutrient transport into the region associated with the western boundary currents (“Nutrient Stream”). We examine how the delivery of nutrients into the North Atlantic via the Gulf Stream changed over the transition from full Ice Age conditions 20,000 years ago to the present, and the impact of these changes on the biogeochemistry and biological productivity in the region.
