Via Emma Blandford: Three years ago, the Explore first-year living learning community (Explore LLC) expanded to include nearly 300 students each academic year! We have jumped around between a few different ideas on how and what to host for classes, and overwhelmingly students have enjoyed, and received immense support through the GT 1000 program.

This fall we are offering Explore LLC specific sections of GT 1000, and hope that if you have a background and experience in science, mathematics, research, or health-related careers you would consider supporting our Explore Living Learning Community team as an instructor!

If you have passions in other areas that fit into any of the below themes, we would also welcome you instructing a general section (open to more than Explore LLC students) for COS and other GT first-year students.

  • Innovation
  • Global Engagement
  • Sustainability
  • Service Learning
  • Leadership Development
  • Research
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Globally significant grand challenges
  • Diversity & Inclusion
  • Academic Majors/Discipline
  • The Georgia Tech community
  • The First-Year Student Experience

What is GT 1000?

GT 1000 is a one credit hour, letter-graded class that is designed to support first-year students in their transition to Georgia Tech and is taught by Georgia Tech academic faculty and administrators with advanced degrees (THAT’s YOU!). Each section of GT1000 is small (approximately 20 students) and also includes Team Leaders (TLs), upper class students volunteer to serve as peer mentors to first-year students.

GT 1000 is designed to help students succeed in their courses at Georgia Tech, to offer them a support system of peers, faculty, and administrators, and to encourage them to become active, engaged members of the Georgia Tech community.
