THE DEDICATION RECEPTION HAS BEEN CANCELLED. This event will be rescheduled most likely in the fall.

In the anniversary of the 30th year of the naming of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, Interim Dean John L. Tone and the Dean's Offices of Communications and Development host the dedication of a new exhibit showcasing the life story, principles, and values of College namesake, Ivan Allen Jr., Mayor of Atlanta from 1962 to 1970 who established the modern foundations for the city and was a pivotal leader for Civil Rights.

The Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts is entrusted by the Allen family as steward of Mayor Allen's legacy of tranformation urban leadership, social justice, social courage, and ethical action. Recognition of Mayor Allen's extrarodinary legacy can be found in many places throughout Atlanta. Most recently in November 2019, the PATH Foundation brought the city together to dedicate the Ivan Allen Jr. Legacy Bridge connecting downtown Atlanta’s east and west sides.

A prior exhibit about Mayor Allen was on display at the former location of the dean's offices on Marietta Street. The new exhibit in our offices in the Savant Building presents the compelling story of Mayor Allen's life as a Georgia Tech alumni (Commerce 1933), as an inspiring and transformative business and civic leader, and his personal and public journey to become a pivotal advocate for Civil Rights in America. The exhibit illuminates the College's committment to the Allen values and principles that are the foundation of research, teaching, and public engagement in the College.

Faculty, staff, students, and friends are invited to join us for the dedication, to view the exhibit, and enjoy refreshments on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, 3 - 4:00 p.m. in the dean's offices in the Savant Building, first floor lobby at 631 Cherry Street, NW.

Remarks by:

  • Interim Dean John Tone
  • Ivan Allen IV
  • Col. Stephen C. and Mrs. Pamela Hall
