Whether you are a HSOC major or just a history geek – come and join the Phi Alpha Theta honors society!  Read on for more information. And if you are interested please let Dr. Gerona know no later than Friday, March 13: cgerona@hsoc.gatech.edu  Our initiation will be in April.

Phi Alpha Theta is an American honor society for undergraduate and graduate students and professors of history.  The society recognizes academic achievement, and members who are interested have also played a leadership role in HSOC student activities.

If you have 12 semester hours (four courses) in history, achieve a minimum GPA of 3.1 in history and a GPA of 3.0 or better overall you can become a chapter member. Three credit hours of online, transfer, or AP credits may be applied to the membership eligibility requirement.  Membership is not limited to HSOC majors or minors.  Phi Alpha Theta welcomes undergraduate and graduate students.  There is a one-time due of $50.00.  If you would like to join but the fee is a barrier, please contact Dr. Gerona and we will make an alternative arrangement.  All initiated students will receive a graduation sash, a membership certificate, and a one-year subscription to the quarterly journal, The Historian.  Initiates will have their names published in The Historian, and the honor society has multiple scholarship and research opportunities.
