Aditi LaddhaSchool of Computer Science student Aditi Laddha has been honored with the Ada Lovelace Fellowship. Microsoft gives the prestigious recognition to Ph.D. students at North American universities who are underrepresented in computing.
Laddha is a second-year student in the Algorithms, Combinatorics and Optimization program, where she specializes in creating faster algorithms for high-dimensional sampling and convex optimization. This work is foundational in improving machine learning.
The fellowship funds three years of Laddha’s Ph.D. and provides the opportunity to visit Microsoft Research for a two-day summit.
“This fellowship means a lot to me,” Laddha said. “It’s a very good opportunity to see the kind of research carried out in the industry.”
The application process for the fellowship was competitive. Laddha was nominated by her advisor, Professor Santosh Vempala, and then did an in-person interview with Microsoft.
“Aditi Laddha is working on central problems in algorithms, specifically sampling and optimization in high dimension,” Vempala said. “Her clear thinking, raw mathematical talent, and creativity make her a richly deserving recipient of the Ada Lovelace fellowship.”
