The Georgia Institute of Technology teamed up with Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) to present the live debut of InVenture Prize competition. Over $30,000 in prize money was awarded to the winners.

 

The Georgia Institute of Technology teamed up with Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) to present the live debut of InVenture Prize competition on March 17, 2010.

Winners of the 2010 InVenture Prize, an innovation competition where undergraduate students develop and present inventions, included the following entries:

  • Mechanical Engineering major Patrick Whaley, from Duluth, GA, won first place and $15,000 with his sports apparel that utilizes a form fitting gel designed to increase workout intensity. Whaley also won the $5,000 People's Choice Award, voted on during the broadcast by the audience.
  • Aerospace Engineering major Sarah Vaden, from Huddleston, VA, won second place and $10,000 with her Pneumatically Elevated Pitch (PEP) Pedal that allows drummers to change the pitch of their instruments while they’re playing. 

Both winners received a free U.S. patent filing from the Georgia Tech Office of Technology Licensing, each valued at approximately $20,000. 

The next competition is planned for March 9, 2011.
