There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Title: Design of Self-Powered Internet of Things Devices
Committee:

Dr. Yu, Chair
Dr. Chatterjee
Abstract:
The objective of the proposed research is to explore and develop a self-powered IoT device, which, in the following context, is selected to be a visible-light-centric authentication IC. This architecture is selected to utilize the high availability and exposure of the visible light band in our surroundings and the ability to transduce/sense this energy with CMOS compatible processes. System-level analysis of the energy delivery system(EDS) to provide a basic understanding of critical constraints when implementing energy harvesting for a self-powered standalone system is conducted. On-chip implementation of signal sensing and authentication with a test-chip is presented and evaluated. Design considerations to enhance the capability of the current design to realize the target application is also explored. The proposed research will conclude with the design of a fully self-sustained authentication IC.
