Mary Frank Fox, ADVANCE Professor, School of Public Policy, has been elected Chair-elect of the Social, Economic, and Political Sciences Section of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). AAAS is the world's largest multidisciplinary scientific society, with members in more than 91 countries. AAAS is a leading publisher of cutting-edge research through the Science family of journals.
Mary Frank Fox's research focuses on women and men in scientific occupations and organizations. Her research has introduced and established ways that scientists' participation and performance reflect features of the social and organizational settings of education and the workplace. In 2015, she received a "Section Star" award (Science, Knowledge, and Technology) of the American Sociological Association; in 2016, the Gender Equity Award at Georgia Tech; in 2017, the Ivan Allen College Distinguished Research Award and the Faculty of the Year Award from the Student Government Association. In 2018, she was elected a AAAS Fellow for “distinguished research on women and men in scientific organizations and occupations, and leadership on issues related to diversity, equity, and excellence in science.”
