*********************************
There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Summaries

Summary Sentence: This change will restrict all open ports to campus and attempt the upgrade of Ubuntu OS to a supported/patched version. If it survives it will still be accessible from campus. If not, the servers and the service will be decommissioned.

Full Summary: This service This service is only supporting T-Square Media Tool and some random plays of hosted videos from web pages. This year in January there were a total of 472 plays from wow02.  _226_ of those were for this video: library.gatech.edu    tutorials    etd_final.mp4. All of the videos being played were moved to MediaSpace over two years ago and can, and should, be played from there. T-Square is restricted to campus only use.  Uploads in DMI were disabled on 2/15/19. There were no plays of videos this year from the T-Square Media Tool. All of the information on who owns what is kept in a mysql database  DMI consists of two active servers in RICH Data Center:  One virtual- RHEL5 - wow02.media.gatech.edu - a wowza server.
There are no updates available for RHEL5 (End of life March 31, 2017).  One physical - Ubuntu 12 - www01.media.gatech.edu - a database application and web server. Ubuntu 12.4 was end of life April 28 2017.
I will attempt to upgrade www01 to Ubuntu 14 (End of life April 2019) then on to Ubuntu 16 (Supported until April 2021).  The attempt to upgrade www01 to Ununtu 16 is a high risk upgrade. Several of the service servers I attempted this upgrade on in the past failed and were not recoverable. If www01 does not survive the service will go down and can not be recovered.  wow02 has these ports open to the world: 80/tcp any, 1935/tcp any, 6970-9999/udp any
www01 has these ports open to the world:  80/tcp  any,  443/tcp any This change will restrict all open ports to campus and attempt the upgrade of Ubuntu OS to a supported/patched version. If it survives it will still be accessible from campus. If not, the servers and the service will be decommissioned.
