Studying at Georgia Tech-Lorraine, Tech’s campus in Metz, France, is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Some students assume the cost will be a roadblock, but there are several ways that students can bring down the cost to help make the dream of studying abroad a reality.

Georgia Tech-Lorraine offers scholarships for both undergraduate and graduate students in the Fall and Spring semesters, and provides other opportunities for students to cut costs. For example, each Fall and Spring, the Georgia Tech-Lorraine Challenge Scholarship is awarded to one undergraduate ($2,500) and one dual-degree graduate ($5,000) student. These scholarships are need-based.

Female undergraduates studying engineering at Georgia Tech-Lorraine can also apply for the Armanios Family Scholarship offered by the Armanios/Philobas family in the amount of $500. Professor Armanios is a former member of the aerospace engineering faculty, and Professor Philobos, affectionately known as “Mimi,” is the architect of Georgia Tech’s “Women in Engineering” program.

Undergraduates can further reduce their costs by becoming the Georgia Tech-Lorraine blogger. The student will receive a two-month Eurail train pass in return for their writing. A link to the application can be found on the Georgia Tech-Lorraine website under Scholarships

Graduate students can apply for the Global Fellowship, open to non-dual-degree master’s students who will complete their final semester of studies in Atlanta, after spending two semesters at Georgia Tech-Lorraine. The fellowship is not need-based. One $5,000 fellowship is offered in the Spring semester, and one in the Fall. Dual-degree master’s students may apply for the Challenge Scholarship, a need-based award created to offset the cost of a semester at the Atlanta campus.

Descriptions and application links for each of the Georgia Tech-Lorraine scholarship opportunities can be found at https://lorraine.gatech.edu/undergraduate/go/scholarships(undergraduate) or https://lorraine.gatech.edu/graduate/go/scholarships(graduate).

All details about Georgia Tech-Lorraine costs can be found at https://lorraine.gatech.edu/undergraduate/go/costs(undergraduate) or https://lorraine.gatech.edu/graduate/go/costs(graduate).

In addition to specific Georgia Tech-Lorraine scholarships, most financial aid (Hope, Zell Miller, etc.) will transfer over to Georgia Tech-Lorraine. Students should check directly with the Georgia Tech Financial Aid Office to determine if a specific scholarship will apply, and how many credits they will need to take in order to maintain their award.

The Office of International Education (OIE) administers scholarships and there are many other study abroad scholarships available. Students should apply for as many scholarships as they qualify for.
