There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Title:
Genomic Analysis of Micro-inversions Based on High-Throughput Sequencing
Abstract:
Micro-inversions (MIs), which is a kind of variation in the human genome, are generally defined as small inversions in DNA segments shorter than 100 bp. In the last decades, variations on the human genome have been proved to be associated to human evolution and disease development. Although the human genetic variation in genome has been studied extensively, the role of MIs remains unclear.
This research explores the effect of MIs in both the healthy human genome and cancer genomes. Specifically, the distribution and phylogenetic structure of MIs among various populations are analyzed to reveal the diversity of MIs among populations. Along with this process, MIs are proved to be related with human evolution, environmental adaptation. and human health. In addition, analysis of the top genes, in which MIs are located among different cancer genomes are explored to show the MI preference for various genes among cancers. The analysis of MIs will provide a useful source in further evolutionary and medical studies. In addition, the MIs in cancer genome analysis will provide a guidance for the treatment and diagnosis on the cancers.
