Mitchell and a handful of her 25-plus students make up one of the largest undergraduate labs on campus. Their work combines machine learning algorithms with predictive medicine to help find causes, cures, and better care for diseases like Alzheimer's, LouCassie Mitchell is an assistant professor at Georgia Tech who has chosen to never give up. Mitchell is a quadriplegic who holds numerous world titles and two Paralympian medals, is battling cancer, and is researching ways to use predictive medicine to find causes, cures, and better ways to care for patients with diseases like ALS, Alzheimer's, and cancer. Next year, she hopes to bring home the gold medal at the 2020 Paralympic games.
