About the CIC

The Convergence Innovation Competition (CIC) encourages students to create innovative, viable products and experiences whether they are projects for classes, individual classes or even beyond that. Categories are determined by our campus, industry, and community partners. Winning entries will include a working end-to-end prototype which operates on converged services, media, networks, services, and platforms as well as a value proposition model. CIC winners go on to commercialization, other competitions, as well as internship and job opportunities strengthened by their competition experience. CIC is an annual event produced by GT-RNOC and IPaT.

Submissions for the Fall 2019 Convergence Innovation Competition are due by midnight on Sunday, November 10. This semester's categories include:

Climate Solutions

Offered in partnership with the Global Change Program, this category is focused on developing practical solutions related to climate change. Solutions may contribute to limiting carbon emissions; coping with environmental, social, and/or business changes; or promoting a greater understanding of how climate change impacts wellbeing and prosperity.

Health on the Move

This category promotes the vision that all individuals—regardless of age, socioeconomic status or health—fully engage in life; sustaining relationships, independence and quality of life while continuing to learn, grow, and contribute to society. Innovation in this category will support health and wellbeing throughout all phases of life.

Players and Fans

This category encompasses innovations that benefit athletes, artists, entertainers, esports gamers, fans, owners, or professionals supporting these trades, whether amateur, youth, or professional. Solutions could focus on improving performance, expanding access and interest in the craft, lowering financial or other barriers to participation, skills acquisition, injury prevention, and enhancing the fan experience.

Think your idea doesn't fit these categories? Ask us! Categories are intended to shape your ideas, not exclude them.

Learn more about the competition at the Convergence Innovation Competition website.
