The 3,100 first-year students who begin classes at Tech this week came from a pool of nearly 37,000 applicants for admission this year — an all-time high, and a 4% increase over the previous year.
This year’s incoming class is 43% female. The group comes from 77 countries, 47 states, 1,425 high schools (350 within Georgia), and 96 Georgia counties.
The most popular majors among this year’s class are computer science, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, aerospace engineering, and business administration.
As this class begins its time at Tech, the work of building the next class is already underway. Representatives from Tech’s Undergraduate Admission team will hit the road this week for the annual Peach State Tour. Admission counselors from Georgia Tech, the University of Georgia, and Georgia State University will spend two weeks traversing the state to meet with high school students and share information about their respective universities and the admission process. Learn more about where they’ll be this year at peachstatetour.org.
Applications for the incoming class of 2020 are now being accepted, and the early action deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 15. Learn more about applying to Georgia Tech at admission.gatech.edu.
