Kate Pride Brown, assistant professor in the School of History and Sociology, spent 10 months in Russiawith environmentalists developing her "field of power" theory of civil society. She introduced the theory in her book, Saving the Sacred Sea: The Power of Civil Society in an Age of Authoritarianism and Globalization.
