On November 15, IPaT and GT-RNOC hosted the Fall 2017 Convergence Innovation Competition (CIC) live demo and judging event on both the Atlanta and Georgia Tech-Lorraine campuses. Twenty-seven teams participated in this semester's competition in the categories of Health & Wellness, Smart Cities & Internet of Things, and Arts & Culture. Here's a look at the winners in each category:

Health & Wellness
1st place - My Sous Chef is a personalized, all-in-one meal planning service.

2nd place - The Avocado app allows users to easily enter their food and instantly receive a simple and clear analysis of their diet.

Arts & Culture
1st place - The Experihance app, along with wearable hat and wristband options helps attendees better engage with live events by facilitating getting closer to their peers and the action.

2nd place - EveryEvent makes culture around you more accessible and helps venues engage and attract new customers.

Smart Cities & IoT
1st place - Awexa is a multi-platform solution to improved child chore management, integrated into the smart home.

2nd place - Hooky Hacker is a fast, convenient, and foolproof solution for attendance monitoring at Georgia Tech.

Honorable mentions go to:

daTeach and Mission 42 take different approaches to empowering people to learn and/or teach more effectively within their communities.

ResQ is a timely application which links natural disaster victims with organizations and individuals who can help.

RIC provides a potentially transformative digital interface for traffic stops by law enforcement.

ANTS creatively (and somewhat ironically) uses a phone application to combat the rising problem of phone addiction.

The CIC highlights student achievement and innovation and supports further development by connecting promising teams with feedback, networking opportunities, and resources to encourage continued refinement and product launch. Many of these competitors will enter updated versions or something entirely new in the Spring 2018 CIC in Atlanta or at Georgia Tech Lorraine in April.

Faculty interested in incorporating the CIC into their spring courses in any college should contact Matt Sanders or Russ Clark. Companies interested in leveraging the benefits of CIC sponsorship should contact Siva Jayaraman.
