There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Title: VCSEL-based Multimode Fiber Optical Links for High Capacity Interconnects
Committee:
Dr. Ralph, Advisor
Dr. Klein, Chair
Dr. Chang
Abstract:
The objective of the proposed research is to develop and demonstrate new system archetypes for increasing optical interconnect (server-to-server) data rate capacity in data center and high performance computing applications. This proposal will overview the main impairments of a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) based link, noise analysis of VCSELs and the impact of fiber on noise, advanced modulation formats (PAM-4), optical power penalties associated with faster line rates, transmitter equalization, and few tap transmitter pulse shaping.
