Eight of Mexico’s rising star directors create a colorful dramatic portrait of a century of upheaval and change in this omnibus film. A room in a turn-of-the-century mansion gives up its ghosts in eight separate episodes unfolding over a hundred years. The opulent room is in its prime in the early 20th century, as director Carlos Carrera (Oscar-nominated The Crime of Padre Amaro) weaves a story of the tension between a young mistress dressing for a gala, her oppressed maids, and her wealthy arrogant husband, initiating the film’s running theme of class warfare. The room evolves with changing fortunes, tastes, and the course of history, witnessing the Revolution, decadence, crime, earthquake, and waves of immigration and persecution. In Spanish with English subtitles.
