In the role, Toney will direct key programs and projects on behalf of the Office of the Provost, including dean and vice provost-level searches and reviews, named faculty position data and processes, and development and management of Office of the Provost processes and policies. The director role is a key addition following an organizational restructure impacting the Office of the Provost and the Office of the Executive Vice President, announced in March.
“We look forward to welcoming Michael as he joins the Office of the Provost in this new role,” said Jennifer Herazy, chief administrative officer for Academics and Research. “He brings program administration experience that will serve the Institute well as we find greater efficiencies in serving our faculty, staff, and students.”
Toney comes to Georgia Tech from Emory University where he has served as the director of New Student Programs since 2016. In the role, he collaborated with 45 academic departments and personnel from 15 campus services offices on orientation programming, a digital-first onboarding strategy, communication and transition experiences of students, and program evaluation and assessment. Along with serving as an instructor, Toney also supported management of Emory’s first-year seminar course. Before that, Toney served for a number of years at Washington University in St. Louis in First Year Programs.
Toney is a member of the Association for Orientation, Transition, and Retention in Higher Education (NODA) and holds a master’s of education in College Student Affairs Administration from the University of Georgia and bachelor’s of science in Management from Georgia Tech.
