Renee ShelbyRenee Shelby's paper, "Techno-Physical Feminism: Surveillance, Anti-Rape Technology & Shifting Risk Paradigms," has won the 2019 Section Body & Embodiment Best Graduate Student Paper Award from the American Sociological Association.
The awarding comittee was very impressed with the paper, particularly its attention to historicity and the elucidation of the cultural shift to personal responsibility. Committee members also commented on the strength of Shelby's analysis in highlighting how the technologies meant to address rape as a social problem contribute to a longstanding effort to regulate women's bodies.
The award will be presented on August 12th. In addition, the same paper was accepted for publication at Feminist Media Studies. Congratulations Renee!
